Created in 1974, SNIM (Société Nationale Industrielle et Minière) is now the 2nd largest African iron ore producer with a 12 million tons yearly supply. SNIM's goal is to up the production to 40 million tons by 2025.
SNIM is a primary actor in Mauretania and accounts for more than 15% of the country's GDP and employs around 10,000 people, making the company the 2nd largest employer of the country. SNIM is a major player in the Mauritanian life.
SNIM carries out all its mining operations, including research, pits optimization, earthworks, ship loading, drilling, explosive detonations, etc.
Shipping of the ore is done via a 700km railroad from the mines to Nouadhibou's port.
